Willow Farm Grasses is located in ‘downtown’ Bognor, Ontario, along the Big Head River. Not sure where that is? You’re not alone. I had never heard of this village until my partner and I went looking for a rural property with water and great views of the countryside. Bognor is situated between the city of Owen Sound and the town of Meaford; about a 15 minute drive from each.
Situated on almost 50 acres, Willow Farm Grasses has been a labour of love since 2002. Our old farmhouse needed repairs and the land had been used only for a bit of hay and pasture when we arrived. The farm will always be a work in progress, but each year we’ve been busy making changes. There were no gardens on the property when we arrived, so the addition of more beds and new varieties of ornamental grasses each year has been a focus. We’ve planted thousands of young, native trees and shrubs to augment the pollinator friendly perennials. We’ve taken tons of scrap metal out to be recycled. established a few kilometers of walking trails, built hoop houses and are slowly fixing the stone barn foundation.
At Willow Farm Grasses, we specialize in hardy, field- grown, ornamental grasses, as well as native and prairie plants that work well in the eco-responsible garden. As a master gardener, with over 30 years experience in the horticultural field, I am always learning and adapting ...working to provide the best quality plants grown in the most sustainable manner. Heading into the 2024 gardening season, we have over 125 varieties of ornamental grasses and an ever- improving selection of native perennials, shrubs and prairie plants (160 and counting!). When you visit our farm, enjoy a walk past the luscious garden beds, through shady woods and by the Big Head River on several kilometers of groomed trails.
